Hmm. Does anyone else here find it odd that there are *counts* 32 things on my comprehensive wishlist, and *counts again* at least 21 of those things are related to movies or television? I mean, almost all of the music on the list is soundtracks... *shakes head, gives up* Oh well. Guess I'm incorrigible or something. :)
Gosh darn it...don't I like anything that doesn't have anything to do with movies or television? Now, granted, I do enjoy books as well as all those soundtracks and DVDs, but right now the list of books on the list is pretty pitiful. They're all movie/tv books. Goodness. There has to be something wrong with me, doesn't there? (Don't all jump to disagree now....really.....)
Xander (re: career aptitude tests): "What? And suck all the spontaneity out of being young and stupid? I'd rather live in the dark."
Willow: "You're not gonna be young forever."
Xander: "Yes, but I'll always be stupid. [pause] Okay, let's not all rush to disagree."
Buffy (belatedly): "You're not stupid."
Found out yesterday that there's a Great Expectations score album. :) It's been out as long as the soundtrack has, apparently, but I never knew about it or saw it in stores anywhere. So if anyone can track one down somewhere...it'd be good if you tell me where I can find it (other than amazon.ca).... :)
There's a track called "Kissing In The Rain" (that plays in the movie when they're, duh, kissing. In the rain.) that I would recognize anywhere and it's great :), plus a bunch of other cool stuff. Heh. In the movie, there's a character called Arthur Lustig. On amazon.ca, it says there's a track called "Lusting Dies"...now...who else here other than me thinks that's supposed to be "Lustig Dies"? ;) Haha. Anyway, there're also a couple of tracks from that banshee Tori Amos and a couple of tracks by John Williams which should be good.
So again, if anyone can track this down....would be much obliged.
Oh, so NOW Edge 102.1 gives me an invitation to a free concert...they couldn't do that when Our Lady Peace was around?
Just got an e-mail today that says:
"Congratulations, you have won an invitation for two to attend a very special live club gig with Andy Stochansky. Monday November 25th at Club 279 above the Hard Rock Cafe. You and your gust must show up at 8:30 pm. at Club 279 (corner of Dundas and Yonge Street). Your name will be on the guest list at the door.
WHO - ANDY STOCHANSKY [yeah, I'd never heard of him either, but I just checked out his website and it turns out I have heard his song on the radio before...]
WHERE - CLUB 279 - 279 YONGE STREET
WHEN - MONDAY NOVEMBER 25TH, 2002 [yeah and they only tell me about it on the day of? geez.]
TIME - 8:30 P.M.
This show is 19 plus. You should bring ID. Get there early to avoid the line up! CONGRATULATIONS.... AND ENJOY THE SHOW"
Now...that's all fine and dandy except that 1) it's today, 2) I wouldn't have anyone to go with, 3) a club gig probably isn't my thing anyway, (but then I've never been to one so how should I know?) and 4) I've got to do some major essay-writing in the next two nights on some topic that I barely understand. Hmmph. They just COULDN'T give me OLP tickets, COULD they?? When THEIR concert was on a Friday. AND at ACC. AND they rock. Hmmmph.
Oh well...back to the drawing (working) board now...
p.s. - if you want to sign up for The Inside Edge so that you can enter a whole bunch of Edge contests and things like that, let me know so I can refer you....or alternatively, you could just go to edge.ca and sign yourself up. :)
Dude!
Just got back from writing my third Com. test and I think it went pretty well, which is good since I stayed up late to study for it...
I just ate a KrispyKreme donut. :) hehe. 'Cause they're selling them in my residence today. Hehe. Hehehe. Got 4 of 'em...they're not ALL for me! I swear! (No, really, it isn't...I wanted to get some for when Susan pops by here later... :) )
Anyway...one more class to go and then almost all I've got left to do today is go to a concert. Not a bad thing to have left to do. :) Heheh. So...until next time...keep fit and have fun! (Or not)
:)
[added at 4:11 PM:] Sweet! (hehe) My English (Effective Writing) prof. wants to photocopy the essay I wrote on Disney movies; she want to show it to the class partly so there's some proof that you can get an A in the class, and partly to show them what an essay's supposed to look like. Hm. When I handed it in, I thought it was kinda crappy, considering I finished it around 1:00 am or something and pulled the conclusion out of-- thin air. Go figure. Guess not. :) She even said not to bother doing a revision...
Guess all those tedious essays I did in high school actually paid off...who woulda thunk? :)
I'm really quite tired right now, but otherwise fine.
If I concentrate hard, I'll get all my Com reading done before the test on Friday...
I cleaned up my desk last night because it was starting to look rather cluttered and unkempt and it's so much nicer now. :) Now that there's actually some sort of order to it AND space to work... :) YAY! Plus, seeing it nice and neat (at least for now) makes me feel better/calmer. :)
Okay. Just get through this week - do the sh-- uh, crappy Com reading, start my Writing essay - just get through this week 'til Friday and on Friday I'll get a reward for it. :) Looking forward to going to the concert. Should be fun. Nice change of pace, at any rate. :)
Just finished reading an essay by Amy Tan entitled "In The Canon, For All The Wrong Reasons"...it's good. She's an excellent writer. I've never read any of her books because their subjects weren't all that appealing to me, but she writes well. Liked the essay.
Anyway. The point of me reading the essay is 'cause I've got to write another essay of my own...the only hitch is, instead of supporting her views in her essay, I've got to support the other side...Here's the topic that comes with this essay:
Tan describes the view of [a] California professor who insisted that it is "the obligation of the writer of ethnic literature to create positive, progressive images". What argument might be made in support of such a view?
Hmmmm. Hmmm. I don't know...do they have an obligation? Well, I guess it doesn't matter whether they actually do or not...I've got to support it...
So, while I'm busy thinking on this and studying for my Com. test and eating my lunch :), anyone got any ideas? ;)
Sooooo tired today. Couldn't sleep at all last night. Maybe it had something to do with that cup of tea I had around 8:00 pm... :P The tea. Ah, the tea. It's good for keeping you awake long enough to do what needs to be done, but when what needs to be done is done and you want to sleep....not so good anymore. :)
So. I've done one quiz/test/tiz/quest so far today. So it's just one tutorial, one grammar test, and then *à la Shania* I'm outta here...
Well. Not that I'm actually going anywhere later. Maybe tonight I'll catch up on some work or maybe just get some extra sleep. Oh, who am I kidding? Probably won't do either of those things. :P Damn, I'm stupid. ;)
Hopefully will get to see Harry Potter And The Chamber of Bloody Secrets tomorrow... ok, so that's not the actual title, but it IS set in England so it's okay that I've taken some bloody liberties with the title... :P :)
I'm strange. So sue me.
(Actually, please don't. Don't have enough money on me to be sued at the moment...)
Today at 11:11, everybody forgot about the Remembrance Day moment of silence. In fact, a friend in the class I was in (Economics) didn't even know it was the 11th today. Go figure. I did my own silence, and sort of missed the long-winded Remembrance Day services they have at BSS, with the trumpets and everything...
Anyway.
- happy Remembrance Day (or maybe not happy, but whatever sentiment best fits there)
- happy anniversary (to anyone having one today -- i.e., a two-month one, perhaps)
- happy birthday (to anyone happening to have a birthday today).
It would be nice if it was my birthday. :) Maybe not today, though. Because none of my closest buddies would be around to celebrate...
Question: Will anyone be around and available and willing to go watch Harry Potter with me somewhere/sometime on Friday??
And side note: YAAAAAAY! THEY'RE RELEASING AN "ANGEL" SEASON 1 DVD SET ON FEB. 11, 2003!! Goody goody. :) (Oh, goodness. That "goody goody" reminded me of a line of dialogue that was in the Hannibal trailer way back when...terrible movie. :P)
Goodness. I've had various songs from Pocahontas stuck in my head all week...just because I watched it a week ago and 'cause I just wrote an essay on Disney movies...
But anyway, I'm really starting to think that I'd really enjoy the soundtrack...Yes, I'm odd. I know this. You know this. What were you expecting? :)
On a day like today
You never wanna see the sun go down...
It's lovely outside today. I love the trees. My essay is crappy but I'm handing it in today so I don't have to worry about that much more, at least for a week or so. It's my turn to clean the suite, and I have no money left in my wallet, but it's also a Friday. Fridays are good. I was up late working on the aformentioned crappy essay. But it's done. And I've got only one more class left until the weekend. Well gosh, I really don't think my essay is really up to par. And it's a page over the limit. God, I wish I didn't care so much... :P Life would be so much more fun with out all this caring... :P :) But it's lovely outside today.
So anyway I'm thinking of doing this topic for my English essay instead:
Do you agree with [the] assertion that movies of the Disney variety "talk down to [the child], insult his intelligence, and lower his aspirations"? Use specific examples to explain your view.
Thinking that might be easier to work with. Besides, I did just watch The Lion King and Pocahontas again on the weekend... :)
p.s. - (1:22 PM) Not to make light of the situation, but I just saw the stupidest tabloid headline ever..."The Snipers: Their Secret Gay Life" ...What the hell is that?! *rolls eyes*.... Damn tabloids...
Gaaaaaaaaaaah! (that was an anguished yell that came out sounding more like a strangled cat....not that I actually strangle cats...but I guess you get my meaning....or....possibly not.) That calc test was friggin' hard!!
"The heroes of television programs and film can tell us a great deal about the values and attitudes of our society. Choose one hero from a contemporary television program or film and explain what that hero tells us about our values and attitudes. Be specific and detailed in your response."
Now, I'm thinking of maybe writing it on Harry Potter...anyone got a better idea? That actually reflects something about our values? Anyone? *nudge nudge*
(And hurry up with those suggestions, I've got to hand it in on Friday! :) )
